Our firm’s story

Bolt Findlay Solicitors was established in 2004 by Steve Bolt and his partner Vicki Findlay.

Steve and Vicki were actively involved in the community and committed to social justice. Over the years, the firm provided pro-bono assistance to environmental activists (including people charged at the coal-seam gas protests near Lismore, Grafton and Kyogle), community groups and the Nimbin Hemp Embassy.

After 30 years of practising law, Steve retired in 2025, and the firm is now owned by solicitor Daniel Haig.

Our firm is a member of the Cancer Council Legal Referral Service and provides pro-bono legal assistance to eligible patients who are referred to us by the Cancer Council.

Some of our more notable pro bono work involved defending a significant number of people charged with offences at CSG blockades and protests. We also have worked with Lismore Women and Children’s Refuge; Nimbin Hemp Embassy; Nimbin Neighbourhood & Information Centre and Rafiki Mwema.
